Art and Textiles Stories
ROOFOO (Intimate Weave)
(Special Guest: Aboubakar Fofana)
Fatim Soumaré, Damien Ajavon, Aïssa Dione, Bubu Ogisi
The intimate weave of threads and fibers can be seen as a metaphor for the act of weaving itself—creating a fluid, cohesive material, inseparable from the elements that form it. The absorption of color into the fabric also speaks to this intimacy, illustrating the deep connection between the material and its essence.
Textile art, through its countless pathways, highlights the infinite possibilities of harmony between materials and techniques..
RWANDA (Fibres)
In collaboration with Rwanda Arts Initiative
Cedric Mizero, Tchaka Tambwe, Izabiriza Moise
Through fibers and traditional materials, three Rwandan artists revisit the myths and beliefs of contemporary society.
In Kinyarwanda, the word for both past and future is the same: Ejo.
Returning from the land of a thousand hills, where she met the master bark tanners of ficus — impuzu — and the last custodians of artistic basketry, Aïssa Dione presents at Galerie Atiss Dakar, in collaboration with Rwanda Arts Initiative, three emerging artists from the contemporary Rwandan scene. Drawing inspiration from ancestral techniques and knowledge — ejo hashize (yesterday) — they shape the contours of what is to come — ejo hazaza (tomorrow).
