Serigne Mbaye Camara

Born in Saint-Louis, Senegal, Serigne Mbaye Camara lives and works in Dakar. Since 1996, he has combined his work as a creator and educator at the National School of Arts in Dakar with teaching positions at various universities, including those in Thiès, Ziguinchor, and Saint-Louis.

He began his training at the National School of Arts in Dakar, where he later held several key positions, including head of the visual arts section, the fashion design and tailoring departments, and eventually became a pedagogical advisor. He later continued his studies in France at the technical high school in Cachan.

Serigne Mbaye Camara has been awarded the Knight's Medal of the National Order of Merit and the National Order of Arts and Letters. He has taken part in numerous group exhibitions, including "Grands Arts Contemporains du Sénégal," shown in France, Belgium, and Austria in the early 1990s, as well as at the Musée Dapper in Paris. His work has also been the focus of several solo exhibitions, including one in 2002 at the Museum of Cultures (Kultuurien museo) in Helsinki. That same year, he was appointed president of the exhibitions committee for the Dakar Biennale (Dak’Art).
