“During my residency with Galerie Atiss in Dakar, I am exploring the city through its language, symbols, everyday rhythms, and the energy of its people and spaces. Working with materials sourced from the land, including carving into Lenké wood, I am developing woodcut prints, silhouettes, abstracted bodies, and imagined interactions that reflect my observations of the city. I am also exploring translation in a literal sense, moving between English and French as a way of thinking about language, meaning, and how we understand one another. Having returned to Senegal several times, this residency offers an opportunity to reflect on my evolving relationship with the country and how each visit has shaped the way I see, interpret, and make work about the places I encounter.”
