Dakar, Senegal – GALERIE ATISS DAKAR participated in the 2023 edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, held in New York.
Following its participation in the 1-54 fair in London in 2021, GALERIE ATISS DAKAR presented a selection of works by African artists. This year’s edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair took place from May 19 to 21, 2023 (with a VIP and press preview on May 18), in the vibrant Manhattanville neighborhood of West Harlem, precisely at 439 W. 127th St.

Long established in the art world, GALERIE ATISS DAKAR was founded by Aïssa Dione during the Dakar Biennale in 1996 and has consistently supported and promoted contemporary artists from Senegal, Africa, and beyond.

The gallery offers a perspective on the spiritual and spatio-temporal roots of works by five African artists who create spaces of creativity and resistance within their communities. Coming from Senegal, Congo, Rwanda, and South Africa, this exhibition delivers a powerful testimony about relationships with others and our environment, as well as thoughtful modes of resilience and protection deeply rooted in the collective.
